Most ID theft is User Generated

If you have ever worried about Identity Theft or ID Theft for short then this should help put your mind either at ease, or on super alert.

ID Theft usually tracks back to ONE Person, YOU

Even YOU can be the victim of ID Theft

Most identity theft can be tracked back to ONE Person. . . the user. .or the victim if you will.

You could be the victim of ID Theft if you are a highly social personality

Loose lips (or fingertips, in this case) combined with a weak password can get you in trouble. Social media is the newest place the thieves who are out to steal your identity call home (or a great place to stay for a while) if you hang out there too, you could make childish mistakes. Mistakes the Identity thieves are just waiting for you to make.

Simple Mistakes that lead to ID Theft

What’s your Go To User ID/Password combination?

OK let’s think together. You are in a hurry and need to order photos at a local drug store, but to do so you must set up an account. Quick What’s the go password you use (when you know you may not come back for a while) and you don’t want to forget it next time. Whether you use the classic (and dangerous) 1 2 3 4, a pet’s name or the name of your high school mascot, your password can put you in serious danger for identity theft.

Here are some tips to keep your safe from Online ID Theft:

• Use a different password for each online account you set up.
• Create strong passwords that combine letters, numbers and symbols (don’t forget the shift key).
• If you disclose your high school or birthday (or post photos of your pets) on social sites Do NOT Use them as passwords OR as answers to security questions.
• Don’t use sticky-notes next to your computer with your passwords.
• Change your passwords regularly, especially ones used for your financial sites (bank accounts, investment accounts, etc.).
• Never use the links in an email that requests you log on from there. This is a common ID Theft, phishing technique.
• Don’t discuss or share your passwords to anyone, even to friends and family. Leave them a note in your safe deposit box in case something happens to you, but otherwise they don’t need your passwords

Video Monitoring proves San Diego Officer was One of the Good Guys

In the news today is the Video Monitoring footage of the San Diego Police officer who spent his last few moments on earth, making a difference in the life of a 13 year old boy. Moments after this encounter between Officer Jeremy Henwood, and the young man, where Officer Henwood bought the boy some cookies and asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, the Officer was shot and killed in his vehicle by a mixed up man with his own death wish. The assailant’s wishes were granted moments later when police shot and killed him.

Don’t buy Alarm Monitoring Software

Until you read this information about Alarm Monitoring Software from the Cloud.

I’ve been in the Alarm Monitoring Business for over 25 years. Really. I don’t know why anyone would want to purchase Alarm Monitoring Software when they can simple use it from somewhere else ;) Back in 1987 we decided to purchase an alarm monitoring center that was running alarm monitoring software created by . . . well, another alarm monitoring software company. As we tried to utilize it on a daily basis, we consistently ran into things we “wished” it would do. Along the way we created widgets and pop ups to make life a little easier on the Alarm Monitoring Staff, but then came the day when we decided to “fish or cut bait” as they say back in Iowa (or maybe back in a lot of places:)

We dumped the “off the shelf” software and created our own. Now, nameless (except for its code name: OPIE, don’t ask me why . . maybe something one of the IT staff watched on TV that morning) our

Alarm Monitoring Software

has become the one to WANT !

Installing residential and commercial alarm systems is a technological art as much as a business.

Maintaining Alarm Monitoring Software

used by Central Monitoring Stations, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is a different level of service that most Alarm Companies can not provide on their own. At least not at the quality level that comes with a dedicated facility like ours.

Meet me under the Video Cameras

Video Monitoring means a lot of things to a lot of people. It could conjure up images of voyeurs, high tech Peeping Toms. Video Monitoring could make you think of the government watching over us with satellites, more “Big Brother” like. But Video Surveillance Cameras can make you feel GOOD that someone is watching.

New Use for Video Monitoring of Parking Lots

A Washington man has a great idea for making online transactions (like Craigslist meetings) safer for both the buyer and seller. If you have a well lit parking area with video surveillance  cameras, maybe you should tell others so they can use it now and then. Even better if you are having them monitored, you could offer a service where you notify the Alarm Monitoring Center about a potential meeting and they will be on the watch.

Anyway, here’s the original article . .  enjoy

Background Checks aren’t just a Good Idea

They can really help save you pain and suffering and quite possibly money someday.  Don’t wonder if you should have, do a background check today on a prospective employee, contractor, babysitter, boyfriend, or neighbor.  No one has to know, unless you need them to know.  But you will have the peace of mind of knowing the truth.

In an economic crisis such as the one we have been facing down for a few years or more, people will resort to behavior that they normally would not think of in better times.  Like pretending to be someone or something that they are not, in order to take advantage of you or your situation.  A friend of my father’s used to say (something to the effect of) “nothing is so bad that you can’t take advantage of it” and frankly as a kid I’ve never been sure what that meant.  I always tried to twist it into being a Positive statement, like “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” But as I grew older and wiser, that statement has come back to me as a much different type of a statement, and frankly it makes me glad I didn’t have to spend too much time with this “friend” of the family.

That little voice in my head that said “trust but verify” and maybe that’s why I ended up in the Security Alarm business for almost 30 years.
